I would be very proud of Native American ancestry but it doesn't bother me either way. I just like to find information that is at least 75 to 80 percent accurate. The McGee's of Patrick county are pretty numerous. My 4th great grandmother Sarah McGee Boyd married in 1826, Angus McGee was the surety but that isn't definite proof that's her dad. He didn't get married until 1818 that I can find. As for Martha Jane McGee Compton (b.1825) I don't know for sure but Angus could have been her dad. Martha McGee (b.1797 or 1777) which ever record you chose to believe, is Martha Jane's mother. She was the one that is supposed to be indian. I haven't found a photograph of Martha Jane Compton yet even though I have looked for years and years. However her children were pretty dark skinned. I've managed to find photos of 7 out of 9 children. I just wonder if the DNA test can verify how far back the indian ancestry is if the genes are present? It would be nice if there was a test for Melungeon heritage like that.
