Interested in the Thomas McCoy you mentioned in your letter. In my husband's line he had a Thomas McCoy b. 1825 mrrd. to Eliz.Belle (lizzybell) and they were living in Cabell Co. WV in 1880. Their dgtr Elizabeth mrrd. George W. Pruitt in Wayne Co. WV. Could there be any connection? Legend was that they moved here from Tazewell Co.Va. However, I don't have aything to back that up. Some say that Thomas' father was John McCoy from up around Danville, Va. Interesting, even if there's no connection. Here is why I don't think Elizabeth was a Holbrook: > 1. She is age 54, b. Russell Co, in 1850 census. John Holbrook and Mary Cooksey (the likely parents if she were a Holbrook) were not on the Russell tax list until 1798, indicating they likely were not in Russell in 1796. That alone, I could concede, but -- > 2. In the 1820 census, John Holbrook is dead, and widow Mary is the only female in the household. Thomas McCoy and Elizabeth's oldest child was b. ca 1825, so they probably were not married in 1820. So Elizabeth should have been living with Mary if she were a daughter. It's possible she was living with someone else, but 1 & 2 taken together cast some doubt in my mind that she was a Holbrook. > Please let me know if you find anything further that proves or disproves Elizabeth's (b. ca 1796) name. > Max > > > > ==== VARUSSEL Mailing List ==== > Messages of an inflamatory or abusive manner will not be tolerated > on the mailing list.
