However the trouble with Melungeon ancestry is that the group is ill-defined and in many places not recognizable by physical appearance, name or otherwise. There is some question in my mind if there really is such a thing as a Melungeon. The group seems to have been invented back in the 1950's. Sorry to be negative but I have looked at the all the websites popping up and I am just not convinced it is a real ethnic group. Anecdotal evidence is the enemy of real research.
