    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ABC.2ACE/3848.1 Message Board Post: Most everyone from that part of the country claim some Cherokee heritage, based on the most anecdotal of evidence, mostly without merit. What reason do you have to think she was Cherokee? Her name certainly is not Cherokee. Russell County was not Cherokee Country, especially not in the 1850's. The Cherokee were removed to OK from TN, NC and GA in the late 1830's. If she was alive in 1890 she would be on the rolls at: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/dawes.php Good luck in your search. Everbody wants to be Indian.

    2. Dave Hicks
    3. List This writer is correct, with the surname of Hicks you will find that name with chiefs of the Cherokee people of Tenn. and NC and even Fla. the reason being was that in the early days of Va. 1628 or so a Rev Hicks and Evans was sent out to make peace and convert the native people. And as they were converted they took the surname of "Hicks" or "Evans". The Hicks clan of Russell Co in Va I have traced back to John Hicks of Cumberland Co in Va. in 1702 and he was not Indian or was his wife. William Hicks came to Jamestown in 1611 from England and he was the for father of Robert Hicks who had a son John Hicks but I have not connected them as the same. We must respect the all Native people most of all. Thanks David Hicks PS David Hicks was recorded in Surry England in 0192 AD as a ward of the Church,, do not think I will get back to there HEHE. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kitagista@adelphia.net> To: <VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 25, 2005 9:45 PM Subject: [VARUSSEL] Re: America M.
