Some of the older Lebanon News are on microfilm at the Virginia Tech library in Christiansburg, VA. -----Original Message----- From: JaniceB <janice_b@verizon.net> To: VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 12 Jun 2005 22:23:41 -0400 Subject: Re: [VARUSSEL] Old Virginia Newspapers Robin, Russell County Public Library does not have a newspaper archive. The local, weekly newspaper - The Lebanon News - has been in business since 1880. They do have a collection of old newspapers but I don't know how many years they have. I have been told they allow visitors to come in one day a week to look at them. Since I cannot post a link I'll tell you how to find their website. It is thelebanonnews.com, with a www. in front. Their contact information is there. ----- Original Message ----- From: Roliver414@aol.com To: VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2005 9:25 PM Subject: [VARUSSEL] Old Virginia Newspapers Does anyone know how I can find a list of the newspapers that were active in the Russell County or Southwest Virginia area in the early 1900's. My great-grandfather, Frank Harvey (possible Austin) was murdered on Copper Ridge in late 1906 or 1907. I can't seem to find anything regarding this Murder. I have been told the man who killed him was Clarence Cooper and he fled the area. Wouldn't there be a court record or something? Frank Harvey was married to Mary Jane Hicks August 21, 1899. He is listed as Frank Austin on the marriage license which was the surname of his step-father. I would appreciate any help.
