    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ABC.2ACE/3764.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Its a shame but you may never know any more about her. Remember that in those times people had to appear white to get along. I had one Cherokee ancestor who listed her race as "mulatto" which is part black so she would not be sent to OK in the trail of tears removal. I am not implying that the white people were necessarily bad people, they are my ancestors too. It was just hard times. The frontier in the US was SW VA, Tn and kentucky. People were flooding in from Europe and it was pretty much a free for all in 1700's. There is a book which gives an excellent feel for the times. Its a long book and the writing style is not literary but I couldn't put it down. The title is "Old Frontiers" by John Brown. Its hard to find and has been out of print since the 1930's. The ETSU library has it. It is historical fact and I really felt it helped me understand how life was back then. It was very hard for everyone and essentially lawless.

    3. "Old Frontiers" was reprinted in 1986 by Ayer Company, Publishers, Inc. and I'm sure it is still availabe. We bought our copy about 5 or 6 years ago. I believe you have to get it from Ayer in Salem, New Hampshire. It's a must if you are interested in Cherokee history.
