    1. Crouse - Tazewell Co., Va and NC
    2. Randy Crouse
    3. My Crouse connections in Tazewell Co. The name Crouse is uncommon, except in Tazewell Co., Va and surrounding areas in WVa and Western NC (Rutherford, Ashe, Wilkes, Stokes, etc.) There is even a town, Crouse, NC. All Crouses in SWVa are almost certainly related as they descend from a few brothers who came there from NC in the 1850's. My father was the son of Claude H. McNew of Smyth Co., Va. and Beatrice Childress of Russell Co., Va. Beatrice and Claude divorced in 1934 and she married 2nd to Walter Crouse Walter Crouse (my step-grandfather), was son of Jonah Crouse and Myrtle Richardson. Walter Crouse lived at Big Creek in McDowell County, WV in 1920, he was born 1911 in Tazewell Co. at Pocahontas. Jonah Crouse (1882-1922) was s/o William Reese Crouse (1857-1910) and Susan Sparks of Tazewell Co., Va. Wm Reese Crouse was s/o Richard "Dick" Crouse (1823-1883) and Jennie Jane Holloway of NC. Richard Crouse was s/o Jacob Crouse, Jr. (1804-1889) and Margaret Willey, both of NC. Between 1850-1860, these Crouses came to SW Va from Ashe and Wilkes Co., NC. They came to NC from Lancaster Co., Pa. They can be traced back to a Melchior Krauss from the Paltinate in Germany. Anyone related to these Crouses? feel free to contact me. My Gr. grandmother was Mary Massa Crouse, father & mother: Nathaniel & Nancy ? Crouse . They were living in Mason Co., WV in 1850. Any connection? I think they moved from Pa. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Randy Crouse" <windwalker1@comcast.net> To: <VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2005 9:47 AM Subject: [VARUSSEL] Eli JACKSON > > Census > 1860 RUSSELL County Va., HENDRICKS MILLS P O, > Series: M653 Roll: 1376; Page: 92, line 40, visit 615 > > JACKSON, ELI JR 24 M W VA > Amanda 24 > James 4 > William H. 2 > Martha J. 2/12 > > > Same page, visit 611, line 17 > > JACKSON, Elizabeth 43 F W Va Farmer 300 > James S. 19 M W Va Farm hand 50 > Margaret 19 F W Va House Domestic > John 19 M W Va Farm Hand (This looks like John W.) > Eli 78 M W NC None > > > > > > > ==== VARUSSEL Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe to the list send an email from the email address you wish > to have unsubscribed to: VARUSSEL-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains > the word "unsubscribe" (without quotes) in the body of the message and > nothing else. 3. Randy: We lived near "Uncle" Glen Crouse in Russell County, Swords Creek, VA. He was a widower and married my "Aunt Laurie Helton" who was also a widow. They lived on Miller's Creek for many years, had 3 children: Glen, Jr., Virgil and Gladys. I know Gladys is still living in Richlands, married to Fayne Stacey. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Randy Crouse" <windwalker1@comcast.net> To: <VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 21, 2005 12:31 PM Subject: [VARUSSEL] Crouse - Tazewell Co., Va and NC > My Crouse connections in Tazewell Co. > > The name Crouse is uncommon, except in Tazewell Co., Va and surrounding > areas in WVa and Western NC (Rutherford, Ashe, Wilkes, Stokes, etc.) There > is even a town, Crouse, NC.
