    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dennisfieldsjaxfl Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.russell/7510.3.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A history of Washington County, Virginia might include all the territory originally encompassed in Augusta County, formed by the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1738; Botetourt County in 1770; Fincastle County in 1772; and Washington County established on December 7, 1776. Each of the subsequent counties split from the Washington County of 1776: Russell County in 1786, Lee County in 1793, Tazewell County in 1800, Scott County in 1814, Smyth County in 1832, Wise County in 1836, Buchanan County in 1858, Dickenson County in 1880. I was looking at a book called Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses 1790-1920. Based on the information provided to me by family members, he was born in Washington County. So my family was wrong. No big deal. I took their information on faith and didn't feel the need to research when Washington County was formed. His birth was in 1755, so it would have been either Augusta County or Botetourt County. The map I used was for 1790, so for everything after 1790, my original post is correct. I appreciate your kind response madyev821. I typed up a response to ruddert...but decided to take the high road with the delete key. God bless you both, and 440 too. Thanks for pointing out the error. I don't like spreading false info either. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
