He was a resident of Walkers Creek in Giles Co VA. He entered service in what became Tazewell Co VA. In 1859 a David Oney of Gallapolis Ohio requested his grandfather's dod for the family record. Joseph Oney stated he was b. 1754 or 55 on the Delaware River - Jersey side, not far from Burlington. Cap't Thomas Witten, William Cecil, and Rev. William McGuire made statements for him.
