Cox James R. "Jim" Cox, 50, 255 Dry Branch Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at the James H. Quillen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following a brief illness. Mr. Cox was a native of Russell County, Va., and had lived in Carter County for the last seven years. He was the son of Mrs. Ruth Hubbard Robinson, of Virginia, and the late Albert James Cox. Mr. Cox was owner and operator of the Buladeen Grocery Store. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Bessie Gertrude Williams Cox, of the home; a daughter, Jenny Houser, Bristol, Va.; a son, Trevor Cox, Bristol, Va.; two step-daughters, Elaine Allen, of South Carolina, and Karen Clagg, of Delaware; a sister, Mona Williams, of Virginia; two brothers, David Cox and Steve Cox, both of Virginia; three grandchildren, J.J. Clagg, of Delaware, Justin and Elijah Houser, both of Virginia; and a special little friend, Harley Williams, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. "Jim" Cox, 50, 255 Dry Branch Road, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, June 4, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. Danny Simerly and Rev. Mike Birchfield officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams, soloist, and Mrs. Sue Bowers, pianist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Garland Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Vaughn Carrier, Joe Carrier, Chad Tipton, Rory Beierle, Bennie Carol, Chris Williams, Tommy Campbell and Paul Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Carrier, Dallas Carrier, Willard Garland, Glen Campbell, Dwight Nave, J.N. Taylor, Darrell Whaley and Troy Mann. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The family, friends, ministers and pallbearers will meet! at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday for the graveside service.
