Homer C. Salyer Rev. Homer C. Salyer, 83, 1489 Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at the residence of his daughter, Vera West, with whom he had made his home. Rev. Salyer was a native of Russell County, Va., and a son of the late Carlos and Ada Powers Salyer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Iona Eads Salyer, November 25, 1992, and by two brothers, Arthel Salyer and Glen Salyer. Rev. Salyer was Ordained to the Ministry in 1940. He moved to Elizabethton in 1953 to accept the Pastorate of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, where he served for a number of years. He also had pastored the following churches: Hunter Memorial Baptist Church, Berrys Chapel Baptist Church and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, both of Spruce Pine, N.C., and the East Stone Gap Baptist Church, Big Stone Gap, Va. He was presently serving as pastor of the Riverview Baptist Church. He was active in the Watauga Baptist Association. Survivors include three other daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Jack Howell, Janice and Richard Estep and LaDonna and Jerry Proffitt, all of Elizabethton; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Desler Salyer, Kingsport, Carlos Salyer and Roy and Joyce Salyer, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mattie Lou Lovens, Melbourne, Fla., and Ina Cameron, Castle Haynes, N.C.; and a brother, Ford Salyer, Nicholsville, Va. Twenty-two grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. SALYER -- Funeral services for Rev. Homer C. Salyer, 83, 1489 Highway 91, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, May 27, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Riverview Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Estep, Rev. Larry Garland and Rev. Roy Wilson officiating. The Smith Sisters will provide the music. Graveside services and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday and also at 11 a.m. Wednesday, will be Kevin Lewis, Lance Estep, Shannon Estep, Eric West, Chad Salyer, Justin Buckles, Jason Buckles, Jamin Buckles, Brad Proffitt, Jeremy Proffitt and Charles Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Guinn, Greg Hatfield, Donald Wilson, Sam Taylor, Dr. Eugene Galloway, his Church Family and members of the Watauga Baptist Association. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Baptist Church, 1419 Broad Street, Elizabet! hton. Friends may also call at the residence of his daughter, Vera West, 1489 Highway 91, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
