Born in Russell County, Va., Mrs. Gilmer came to Kingsport in 1936 and moved to Asbury Center in Johnson City in 1995. Mrs. Gilmer was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was a real estate associate for a number of years. Her husband, Joe Gilmer, and a sister, Mrs. Roy (Grace) Hale, preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Jeana Gilmer, Johnson City, Dr. Phillip and Rebecca Gilmer, Elizabethton, and Joe Jr. and Connie Gilmer, Troy, Mont.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Edythe Little, Portsmouth, Va. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, with Rev. Chris Hughes officiating.
