He was b. 7 Aug 1757 in York Co PA & moved to Washington Co VA at about age 10. He served on the Clinch & at New Garden. "...he recollects that Alexander Smith and a Mr. James lived at New Garden Station at the time he was there..." and he recalled "...marching with...Hatfield, James Cochran and John Keywood..." (the name James was written before Hatfield & marked out). In one tour he was "....collecting and driving cattle from the range below the north fork of Holston..." He moved to Knox Co after the war & a Sam'l Bowman made statement for him saying he'd been acquianted with him for the last forty years (from 1833).
