He stated he was b. in Albemarle Co VA & his father moved the family to Washington Co on Moccasin Creek in 1769. He entered service in 1777. His father was a lieut. & was killed at Kings Mountain & John was with him in that battle. (There is a reference made to a Thomas McCullock who died at Kings Mountain 7 Oct 1780 due to his wounds, but the folks at the War dept said they have no way of knowing if this was John's father.) John was m. twice & it was stated that he had no children by his first wife. (I have a reference that lists a John McCollough m. Mary White 5 May 1789 in Washington Co VA). His second wife was named Elizabeth & they had two children: Thomas b. 4 Aug 1835 Sarah Ann W. b. 6 Apr 1837 John Died 29 April 1838. Elizabeth married later that year to Augustin R. Mallicote - on 25 Dec 1838. Her maiden name was not shown. Michael Fleenor, Ezekiel Hobbs, Robert McCullah, and Capt James Keys made affidavits for John. John & Rachel Morell made statement in 1856 when the guardians of the two children applied for bounty land for them (guardians were Jacob Lynch & Tobias Smith).
