A member of my family has done DNA testing which proves that the John who married Rebecca is a descendant of John Compton and Mary Clarke of MD...unknown which of this John's sons he actually descends from (known ones are 1) John who married Rachel Howard, 2) Matthew who married Susannah Briscoe, and 3) Samuel who married Ann ______, and probably others whose names I don't know yet.) Jeremiah's line descends somehow from the Aquila Compton line (this per a proven descendant of Jeremiah who has had DNA testing), and our family's DNA doesn't even remotely match Aquila's. Rebecca Wallace is believed to possibly be a daughter of ROBERT WALLACE of Montgomery/Wythe/Tazewell Co VA, who can be found in several records buying/selling land and doing various other things with this Compton family. John Compton, Jr. who married Eleanor McGuire did have a son named John who married Mary "Polly" WALLS, who is believed to be a daughter of James & Catherine WALLS, and is mentioned as Mary Walls, a daughter in his will: ---------------------- Annals of Tazewell Co VA, Vol. 1, Pg. 51: A list of marriages celebrated by Henry Harman John Compton and POLLY WALLS, March 5th 1807. Executors: wife and John Lastly. Witnesses: Charles Steelman, Joseph Hoge and JohnLasley. Proven by Joseph Hoge and John Lasley. JAMES WALL APPRAISEMENT (Pg. 29) April 1803 Appraisement £ 35.19.3 JAMES WALLS (Pg. 36) 18 December 1805 Appraisement £ 34.10.2 "One rifle gun which John Walls, heir to said estate , took with him when he moved away." Produced by William Wall, administrator of estate of James Walls. ---------------------- I am a Wallace descendant as well, and have done extensive research in this particular area concerning the Wallace and Walls families. These particular WALLACE and WALLS families were two separate entities and in this case, is not a matter of the surnames being spelled incorrectly by a county clerk or census enumerator. I'm also a Herndon descendant and I'm currently working with someone else on the Aquila Compton line that links heavily into my Herndons...so I have a double interest in these lines myself.
