In E.J. Sutherland's History of the Washington District Regular Primitive Baptist Association 1811- 1951 (posted at New River Notes), he refers to the church as just "Moccasin" or "Moqueson". He mentions that in 1811, it was in the Holston (Baptist) Association, and in 1814 it joined the Washington Dist. Assn, then in 1851, it was dismissed to join the Stony Creek Assn. Perhaps you can find something in the history of the Holston Baptist Assn on the founding of the church. ETSU, I think, has some Assn. papers in the archives. Strangely, Addington's History of Scott County includes several early churches, but does not mention Moccasin at all.
