John Mayo was a son of Ann Taylor. Here's a transcription the Law Order Book Entry that proves it: Russell County, Virginia Law Order Book #9, pages 3-4, Mar 1828: Report of Wm. Jackson, one of the Overseers of the Poor, ordered that John Mayo a poor child of Ann Taylor deceased be bound out by the overseers of the poor. Richard Soard and I believe that Ann was an older daughter of William Taylor & Mary Sword which would have made John Mayo a gr. grandson of Michael Sword, explaining why he would say "old grandfather Sword died last night" in the letter he wrote. Since he and Elizabeth "Taylor" Boothe would have been cousins on the Taylor side and from the same area she and James would have surely known Michael Sword.
