I remember seeing in the census for 1880 (I belive it was) that Sam was living with one of his sons, and that John and Polly Jane Deel Yates were neighbors; also, the census form stated that John's father was Meyer (which could be Mire, which was short for Jeremiah) and mother was Catherine. I don't know if this helps you at all; I hope so. If you have any information to confirm this or that disagrees with it, please let me know.
