Marriage records can also be found in books containing minister returns and church records. One example of this would be "Meade's Old Churches". Also family bibles are a good source and sometimes you can find these records online. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is only a guess, but I'd say Clinchfield Coal Company does not have names of those interred in company owned land cemeteries. However, one place you might look is in the Kiser genealogy website. Many of the Kises are doing genealogy research and have actual long and lat compass reading on the exact location these Russell, Dickenson, and Buchannan Counties-as well as a list of who is known to be buried there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 20, 2009 1:05 PM Subject: Re: [VARUSSEL] Clinchfield Coal Company Cemetery > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: CatherineEdwards524 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.russell/7884.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I'm not sure how to go about finding the person in charge of records, who > would have a list of the names for all the people in this cemetery, since > there were unmarked graves. Dan, If you want to see where the cemetery is located, go to google maps and then copy and paste the below coordiantes exactly as they appear below: 36.905855, -82.081035 This will take you to the hill the cemetery is located on and pretty close to the exact location of the cemetery. Now if you look just a little below that you will see what looks like a white house with a brown roof. If your having difficulty locating it, here's the coordinates for it: 36.905371, -82.080370 I've always pulled into the driveway at that house. If you walk up past the house you'll see a pond. Go around the pond and up the hill to the cemetery. Author: JanetPowersMaune Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.russell/173.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Christina Powers was the daughter of Peter Powers b apx 1765 and first wife Elizabeth UNKNOWN. Peter married 2nd Elizabeth HALL in 1827 in Washington VA. The marriage license was transcribed as "Hull" but if you look at the original return the "u" is closed and is obviously an "a". Peter Powers died between 1840 and 1850 in Washington VA. Peter Powers was the son of David Powers b apx 1740 and Mary UNKNOWN. They lived in Montgomery/Grayson VA. "Mary Grayson" is an error taken from the phrase, Mary OF Grayson VA from previous posts. The posts on Ancestry.com are too numerous to try to correct but important enough to be corrected for Mailing Lists.
