Hi Mike I would be very interested in these maps to show me where they are and who is buried in there. My husband and I have been going to cemeteries to locate family we take pictures of the stones and then document them. This is for our genealogy group as well as documentation on our families. Any that you would have I would like. Maybe if you want to put them on dvd/cd I would be interested in buying one. Personally I would like to see the cemeteries added to the Russell Co. site as in the past. I am not very good with maps and find it easy to check the cemeteries that are listed there. Also a lot of people only go to the Russell Co. site to look at information and wouldn't know about these maps. It would be nice if all cemetery information were available for them to see. Some of these people live a great distance from Russell Co. and aren't able to come and look at the cemeteries. Everyone, I was wondering if there might be an interest in this. I've been working on pinpointing cemeteries on the USGS Quad topographic maps. Initially I started doing this so I could see which cemeteries I'd been at and which ones I still needed to go to, but then I thought that others might have an interest in these maps for their own research. I've loaded up the Big A Mountain quad for everyone to look at and see what you think. It's in pdf form. Michael I love the map would love one like that for Tazewell county plus few other counties in VA. What do I need to do get one? Hello Teresa, Going over your tree I see some errors and some areas I can fill in for you. Starting with Alafair Ray, I see you have her birthdate as 10/20/1889, but all info I have indicates she was born abt 1884. She was the first child of Elias Ray b. 1861 & Cosby Jane Ray b. 1867. Elias Ray was the s/o Elias Ray b. 1839 and Cynthia Honaker. Elias b. 1839 was killed at the battle of Kernstown during the Civil War and Cynthia then married to Henderson Dye. Henderson & Cynthia were my 2nd gr. grandparents. Cosby Jane Ray was the d/o Shadrack W. "Shade" Ray & Delilah Hubbard. Elias Ray b. 1839 was the s/o Iradell Ray & Rhoda Sargent. Cynthia Honaker was the d/o Isaac "Shop" Honaker & Sarah "Sallie" Whitt. Shadrack W. "Shade" Ray was the s/o John Ray b. 1824 & Malinda Dye. Malinda was a sister of Henderson Dye and John Ray b. 1824 was a brother of my 3rd gr. grandfather James Ray. John Ray died 10 Mar 1862 of pneumonia at Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, Virginia during the Civil War. Delilah Hubbard was the d/o William Hubbard & Mary Lyles. Henderson & Malinda Dye were the children of the John Dye & Nancy Little that you listed below. John b. 1824 & James Ray were the children of John Ray b. 1788 & Elizabeth (Hess?). John Ray b. 1788 was the s/o the Benjamin Ray you have listed below. Thomas G. Hess' mother, Mary Ann Dye, was actually the d/o Harvey Dye & Cynthia Ann Hess. She married John David Hess 28 May 1874 in Russell Co. The Mary Ann Dye d/o Prior Dye, Jr. & Sarah Ann Williams (her name was Williams, not Hess) married 03 Mar 1881 in Russell Co. to George Goodman. Mary Ann Goodman, her husband, parents and othe family members are buried in the Goodman Cemetery at Swords Creek, VA. Here's the link: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~varussel/cemeteries/goodmancem.html Not that it matters to you since he's not really in your line, but Prior Dye, Jr. was actually the s/o Prior Dye, Sr. & Carlotta Carter. Prior Dye, Sr. was a brother of John Dye. Harvey Dye was a brother of Henderson & Malinda Dye and another child of John Dye & Nancy Little. Cynthia Ann Hess was the d/o of the John Hess & Lucinda Ray you have listed below. The Henry Hess b. 1793 that you have listed as the s/o Jacob Hess b. 1760 (s/o Valentine & Augustine Hesse) and the John Hess b. 1800 that you have lsited as the s/o Jacob B. Hess and Johanna Elizabeth M. Mosier were actually brothers, both sons of Jacob Hess (s/o Valentine & Augustine Hesse). Hope this clears some things up. By the way, my parents and brother all live in Russell Co. I have many photos, cemeteries and other info on the Russell County VAGenWeb Project at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~varussel/ Some of the photos include Elias & Cosby Jane Ray and children, including Alafair, Shadrack W.
