Surnames: PATRICK Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ABC.2ACE/3753 Message Board Post: I’d like an opinion on the Russell County, Moccassin District 1880 Census entry for William PATRICK familty on page 27, lines 41-47. The parents of my grandfather, Dock Elbert PATRICK, were William and Nancy. I know this from his two marriage certificates filed in Scott County. On one certificate he is listed as D.E. PATRICK and on the other as E.D. PATRICK. I am trying to determine if this is his family. The 12 year old boy on line 46 is the same age that my grandfather would have been, and he was born in Russell County. The enumerator was rather sloppy, so I cannot be certain of the name. I also do not know if my grandfather had brothers and sisters. I would love some opinions on whether or not this name could be Elbert D. Thanks in advance to any of you who will check this out and give me an opinion.

Surnames: Owens, Johnson, Thompson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ABC.2ACE/3748.1 Message Board Post: Linda, Johnson Owens was born in Russell Co. abt 1822. He was the s/o Abraham Owens and Leanna Johnson. I don't have Abraham Owens parents at this point, but Leanna Johnson was the d/o William Johnson & Susannah Thompson. Johnson Owens can be found in the 1850 Russell Co. census in the household of Jacob Thompson and his sister, Johannah "Owens" Thompson. Also living in the household is another sister, Nancy Owens. In 1850, Johnson, Johannah & Nancy's father, Abraham Owens b. abt. 1800, was living in Wayne Co., VA with his second wife, Anna Thompson, sister of Jacob Thompson. Jacob Thompson & Johannah Owens were cousins, Jacob being the grandson of William Thompson, brother of Susannah Thompson. The railroad didn't come to Russell Co. until the late 1880's.

I appreciate your response but do not think you are referencing the same Lucinda that I am. The one I am talking about shows her in the same household with Dicy in the 1850 Russelll Co. Va. Census. Lucinda Thacker, as she is listed, is 18 yrs. old (therefore born c. 1832). Dicy Lockheart gives her age as 50 (borm c. 1800). Bird is deceased by the 1850 census. Who are these Lockhearts that this Thacker girl is living with? Big mystery! Wilburn could be this girl's brother as I recall he was also born around 1830. If I could only determine if Lucinda Thacker was the Lockheart's granddaughter or their daughter or what? I hope someone can unravel this mystery

    3. In 1887, the N&W Railroadbought a right-of-way from my ancestor, Jacob Thompson. This could have been about the time that the railroad was built. Is your ancestor, Johnson Owens, the son of Abraham Owens? If so, Johnson was in Russell County at least by 1850.
