"Old Frontiers" was reprinted in 1986 by Ayer Company, Publishers, Inc. and I'm sure it is still availabe. We bought our copy about 5 or 6 years ago. I believe you have to get it from Ayer in Salem, New Hampshire. It's a must if you are interested in Cherokee history. Records on my family is almost non existant. Martha McGee (the supposed full blooded indian) death record reads as follows. She died in 1854. Martha McGee 75y F26 Aug Blank Blank Jeremiah Compton In 1850 her age is given as 53 so it's hard to tell how she was. No cause of death or parents named mentioned. For all I know there could have been Melungeon ancestry as well. I noticed that the grandchildren of Martha, most had piercing blue eyes, very dark skin, and high cheek bones.

The place name Tuckahoe is common throughout the eastern US. One area of Virginia which uses it is around Richmond. I believe there may be a band near King William VA which uses that name, but I am not sure. Also another possibility - the Cherokee had 7 bands, one of which was the "sweet potato people". You could go on their website and ask if the word "tuckahoe" was used inTsalagi. However there were very few if any Cherokee in VA. I have relations from three tribes. They are nearly impossible to track. Also seems most everybody claims some Indian ancestry, most of them with no merit to their claims. Its cool to be Indian and a lot of people want in on the action. The problems with the early tribes is that they collided withthe European Colonists early on during slavery days and before cameras were inve! nted. Ther is almost no record of them. Several of the tribes in NC, eastern VA, MD, Delaware were taken as slaves and cross-bred with blacks from Africa. They live on only as a component in the African American gene pool. The more western Indians tended to be less easy to tame.

Angus McGhee md. Patsy Thornton 22 Oct 1818 in Henry County, Va. This must have been his 2nd wife. Angus McGhee was born abt 1780 according to the 1820 census of Franklin County, Virginia. I do not find Angus McGhee in the census except for 1820. Sarah McGhee married Isaac Boyd, Sr. 16 Dec 1826 in Franklin Co., Va., Angus McGhee was surety for this marriage. In 1830 Isaac, Sr. and Sarah McGhee Boyd were in Patrick Co., Va. In 1840 and 1850 they were in Russell, 1860 and 1870 they were in Buchanan Co., Va. I am looking for any of Angus McGhee's descendant's.
