I think you nailed it!!! Thanks so much! Isabel and James lived in Paintsville , Ky. He passed away around 1850 and she married Vincent Spears who was a widower with several children. It has been a difficult time trying to find any of her people. I think they moved to Floyd Co. Ky. after their marriage. Any other Powers or Welch out there who need or have any information we can share? There are several references to this John Richmond in Mecklenburg Co., NC and earlier Old Tryon, Anson area that has John Richmond there as early as the 1840s. This John seems to be the same as the one who died in Russell Co., Va about 1807-08. Many resarchers have him from Caswell Co., NC, which I doubt. IF he descends from an Abraham Richmond, the key must be in NC and not eastern Virginia.

Melissa, I hope this information is correct. When trying to sort out these southwestern Virginia Rameys, it can get tricky -- especially since they were so numerous and liked to go by nicknames. I believe GMC Ramey to be the son of John Ramey, SR and Rena Osborne. His name was George McKenny Ramey, and he often went by Kennie. His younger brother, Jackson, was (I believe) the infamous Dack Ramey who got into trouble with his brothers William and John. In a letter Dack wrote from prison, he mentions Kenny Ramey and Florence. 18/Apr/1882 George M. Raney, 18 and single married Florence J. McGlothlin 21 and single. He was the son of John and Rena Ramey, she was the daughter of Sylvester P and Maey Ann McGlothlin. Florence died in 1891. I also have GMC married to a Gertrude Unknown : possibly Gertrude Plaster? This is probably their son: On R. L Ramey's marriage certificate in Wise County 4/21/1919 to Annie E Carter, R.L. gives his father's name as GMC Ramey and his mother's name as Gertrude Ramey. March 17, 1892, GMC marries Amanda Blevins Ramey--daughter of Alexander Blevins and Eliza A Ramey. Amanda went by Ramey and Blevins growing up. In the Scott Co, VA Marriage Register for 1894-1912, GMC is listed as marrying Alverta Blevins Aug 4, 1911. He is a 49 year old widower, and she is 18 and single. They both are listed in the marriage record as having been born in Scott County. He is listed as the son of John and Rena Ramey; she is listed as the daughter of J P and Bettie Blevins. GMC's occupation is a farmer. Now, THIS IS ALL MY RESEARCH -- AND ALTHOUGH THE FACTS LOOK CORRECT, I HAVE NO PROOF THAT THIS IS THE SAME FELLOW WHO MARRIED THESE 4 WOMEN. I sure would like to know more about this GMC -- and about Dack Ramey as well. I would welcome any proof one way or the other on my information. Thanks, Sharon

Randy, Abednego Harris married Ann Jasper in Pulaski Co., KY in 1828 and his first two children, Francis M. & Thomas J., both born in KY, were by her. Abednego was listed as age 42, b. in Wash. Co. VA in the 1850 RCV census. The Meshack Harris in HH #872 of the 1850 RCV census was almost certainly Abednego's brother. Meshack was age 48, b. Wash. Co. VA in the 1850 census. Also, he married Elizabeth Dye in Pulaski Co., KY in 1820. Not much chance of two persons with the same last name, being close in age, born the same place, moved to the same county in another state and marry and then both move back without them being closely related. I have been reorganizing my material and I came across one sheet for Samuel Wesley Maxfield, born 9/10/1865. Married to Mary_____. Children Noah, Arron, John L., Laura, Paris, Dora, Walter M. Gray, Sylvia. and Samuel in Russell Co. Va. I have hotes that Samuel (Samie) Maxfield was living with his grandmother Jane Lockhart in 1910 New Garden. I would like to know who Samuel Weley Maxfield's father was and also who Mary' s Maiden name is. My notes say that he married again and children by this marriage were Bessie, Edie, and Sim. Can anyone give me more information? I am researching the Lockharts, Maxfields, and Whitts.

Thank you Randy, I had been sent information off that census, but not the birthplace being TN, I had been told by a Baker researcher in an interview it said she was born in TN, buried in Osborne Gap, Dickenson County, Va. I did get information from Dickenson County about Cornelius's death day. Samuel Baker married Martha Vance #2, # 3 Lucy Baker d/o Samuel Patrick Baker and Malinda Estep. I think I did send to State of VA, to see if a death certificate was on file, no luck, I think her death fell into the gap of County record and State records. Louise

The birthdate above is probably more accurate than others. also of note is that only five of her 12 children survuive. I did find Cornelius H. Baker in the 1890 Union Census as someone said. Cornelius must have died in Dickenson county then. Socia's parents may be listed in her obituary, if you could find one. She apparently died 1900-1910 in Dickenson Co.
