There is not a lot about Randolph but there is some, mostly census listings. I know a lot about Randolph. I was confusing William Buck Hubbard with his father William Harrison Hubbard. The elder William moved to MO about the same time Randolph moved to Russell. His sister Elvira Hubbard (Belcher) also moved to MO and also spent some time in Arkansas. Williams wife, Mary, and he had several children. Buck was the youngest. When Mary died William returned to Russell and remarried Lucy Ray, daughter of John and Elizabeth Ray. That was the record I saw. Buck also married a Russell County girl, Minerva Knuckles in 1875. Buck apparently returned to MO and died there in 1914."Minnie" died in Russell County in 1935. If you have anything more it would be appreciated. I do this for fun only and will gladly share anything I have with all who ask for it.

They lived in Lee Co., VA and probably died there. All of her children were born in Lee Co. VA. I'd like to find out a birth date or the exact year, when and where she died and who her parents were. . She was full blood Cherokee. I'd like to also know if she had any sibblings. Thanking you in advance, Barbara

James B. was living in RCV in 1860 with wife Eliza Welch and several children including James M. In the 1870 census he is living in Estill Co., KY and James M. & Nancy are living next door. In the 1880 census, they had all moved to Claiborne Co., TN. James B. is living with his daughter Mary A. & her husband William Essary and James M. & Nancy were living in their own household. Jim, children you are missing for James M. Monk & Nancy Jessee are Mary E. b. abt 1870, Martha Ann b. abt 1872, you have Charles, but not his birth, it's abt 1875, you also have Chris, but it's abreviated "Chris. H." with the period at the end of Chris in the 1880 census, so it might be Christopher (though he's also listed as Chris in the 1900 Grayson Co., TX census), he was born abt 1877 and then George who was born dead abt 1879. William was born about 1770. He was married to Lydia Dowell, daughter of Patrick Dowell. There are a few court records in early Russell County dealing with some land transactions by this William Brown involving the land his wife Lydia Dowell inherited from her father. William Brown is found in the 1820 and 1830 census in Russell County. Outside of the above, I have very little else on this family. Would be interested to know about their children and what happened to this family after the 1830 census.

    3. You can order the early Russell County, Virginia Will books on microfilm through your local library. Just go to the Library of Virginia website, find the Reel numbers and titles you need, and fill out an ILL request form at your library. The film will arrive in a few weeks and you can view it at your library. You must have a library card for your library and they must participate in the Interlibrary Loan Program (most do). Your library will generally hold the film for you for about three weeks. You can also order films like that from the LDS library in Salt Lake through local family history centers. A list of phone numbers and addresses of FHC's is online at the LDS site (www.familysearch.org). If you live in town, there is probably one in your neighborhood. Here's a partial list of Wills, Reel No, etc. (ILL means available through interlibrary loan) 11 ILL Will Book 2, 1803 - 1812, [1], unpaged index, [1], 276 p. 11 ILL Will Book 3, 1812 - 1821, Unpaged index, 362 p. 11 ILL Will Book 4, 1809 - 1898 [Circuit Court], Unpaged index, 96 p. 11 ILL Will Book 4a, 1821 - 1835, Unpaged index, 708 p. 12 ILL Will Book 5, 1835 - 1846, Unpaged index, 542 p. 12 ILL Will Book 6, 1846 - 1855, Unpaged index, 553 p. 12 ILL Will Book 7, 1855 - 1866, Unpaged index, 497 p. 1. TO ALL !! I found this interesting story about a servant being called a 'BATMAN'
    2. I FOUND this very interesting story for ANYONE curious about a servant being refered to being called a 'BATMAN' ************************************************************ NOTE: A BATMAN was a servant for all needs, that traveled to battle with their master. This one kept a Journal on that final mission of Capt. Cholmely who was killed July 1755 serving under Gen. Braddock on the banks of the Monongahela. Story with this statement : JOURNAL OF CAPTAIN CHOLMLEY's BATMAN The following article was posted by Barbara Berry Meger (E-Mail: Megerstch@aol.com) on the Chumbley newsgroup Digest V98 Issue #174. Excerpts from "The Journal of Capt. Cholmley's Batman: January the 8th, 1755, Sir Peeter Halkets Regt & Colonel Dunbars Regt. Imbarked at Cove Near Cork for North America & sailed from thence Jan. the 13th. from Ireland to Alexandria [Virginia]." Ibid: "We arriv'd at Hampton in Virginia the 10th of March (there were 13 transport ships & 3 ordnance ships in the convoy. The first ship arrived at Hampton on march 2, the last on abt. march 15th. The vessels had orders from Braddock to obtain fresh provisions on arrival, then proceed to Alexandria.)." "March ye 13, We left Hampton & sailed up the Portwomack [Potomac] River to Alexandria..." Most every day the "Batman" tells of the problems of the day, as they, he & Capt. Robert C. continued to stay on the march thru Wednesday, July 9th & this appears to be the day he was killed, as the Batman wrote "My Master died before we was ten Minuits Ingaged." The Batman also goes on to state that "I had seven horses in the field & one Cow & they was all lost but two horses." He said he had "My Master Baggage that was saved about two Qts of Rum..." P.S. I am Wilma M.(COWSAR)Brown a Tunnell researcher and a TUNNELL-BALL researcher .
