    1. Re: [VAFLOYD] New Subscriber Info.
    2. Carolyn Bruce
    3. Sorry to be so late in getting to the point of Bill's message below, but there are apparently four or more HALE lines that ran through Franklin CoVA in the 1700s, rather than one big bunch. According to DNA tests run through Family Tree DNA, "my" Franklin County HALE line does not match with descendants of Joseph HALE who died and left a will in Patrick County in 1803, nor with descendants of Nicholas HALE who entered Jamestown in the early 1600s, nor with Lewis HALE who m. Mary BURWELL. Neither do their descendants match with each other. Among the men who were tested who do match "my line" to a close degree, we have no idea of how they relate to each other, or of their earlier ancestry. John Hale b. 1765 probably in Southwestern Virginia, later Franklin CoVA, is the earliest among the three, and we don't know of his origins. Somewhere, back in the mists of the ages, I have a memory of my father telling me that "our HALEs" came down from Pennsylvania... there were seven(?) brothers who traveled together. How accurate my memory is can be debated, but who knows? There could be some truth to the memory. Anyway, if you want more information about the DNA tests, go to http://www.familytreedna.com/public/hale/ I am forwarding this message to several other lists that I think might be interested. 2. I thank everyone for the info on the newspapers. I went to the Lebanon newspaper and was also told they lost everything in a fire. I was unaware of the microfilmed items in Christiansburg. Would you believe I have a sister who lives there. I'll contact them to see how far back the microfilms go. I would appreciate it if everyone kept me in mind regarding info on newspapers and or magazines published in the area in the early 1900's. Thanks, Robin

My best guess would be try the Bristol Herald and see what they can come up with, if not then try the Russell County courthouse because they would have a copy of the trail proceeding in the courts permanent records.
