Hi all, When getting familiar with the Russell Co. VAGenWeb, I think I went straight for the photos page to see if I recognized any names and faces! And I've spent tons of hours looking at the annotated census records on the site, as well as cemetery, deed book and law order book transcriptions, etc., you name it. I've learned so much and continue to be most grateful to our Russell Co. volunteers. But, today I used the search engine mechanism there and found even more that will be important to my search(es). So, I wanted to remind everyone about this page (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~varussel/search.html), accessible by clicking through from the Homepage where the link is second in this list: *See What's New on the Russell Co. VAGenWeb* *Search the Russell Co. VAGenWeb* *Russell County Calendar of Upcoming Events* *Visit the Russell County Virginia Chat Room* When you get to the search page, just enter the surname you're interested in and it'll bring up a link to every page on the site that contains that name. It's a really thorough (and quick!) way to find what you're looking for. Michelle
*The Russell County Genealogy Group will be meeting at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 1st at the Russell County Library. Our meetings are very informal and friendly. Come on out and visit with us. * *The Group's purpose is "to learn, to share and to perpetuate family history." All those with these same interests are invited to attend. For more information contact William T. Fuller: 276-889-4894 or [email protected] * Note: We considered cancelling this meeting due to the death of J. C. Jessee. I talked with Sandra, his daughter, last night and she suggested we go ahead as usual because that's what J. C. would have wanted. So, to honor his memory, let's all attend.
I will be there in spirit! If any of my Jessee cousins ever attend who is descended from William Jessee 1801-1867 (s/o Archer) and Eunice Monroe Heburn Jessee, I'd love to get in touch with them. I have some unanswered questions about Eunice's ancestry. William's son, Alexander Robt Preston Jessee was my grandfather. I know, I know, some of you will think I'm missing a few generations, but Alex never got around to starting a family until he was 59. :) With sympathy to J. C.'s family, Carlyine Ritter [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: "VARUSSELL" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 28, 2008 10:32 AM Subject: [VARUSSEL] Russell Co Genealogy Group Meeting > *The Russell County Genealogy Group will be meeting at 5:30 pm on > Thursday, May 1st at the Russell County Library. Randy, thank you so much for the information. I thought Andy was Allen's grandson. Did he have a son named Andrew, as well as a grandson? Also, is there any way to get a better copy of the picture you sent? The one you e-mailed comes out looking like ghosts. I would be happy to pay for any costs involved. Thanks again. She was born Carter Co., TN around 1840 She was Rebecca Moseley d/o P. Harper Mosely and Marinda "Rindy" McKinney Rindy McKinney later married John Vance. Rebecca and her sister, Mary "Polly" carried the Vance name of their stepfather until they were adults, and then started going by Moseley until they were married. By the way, Mary Polly Mosely-Vance married Andy Gross s/o of Allen Gross So, the sisters Rebecca and Polly married father and son! Another way to look at it; Andy married his stepmother's sister. Andy was my wife's g-g grandfather so yes you and my wife are 3rd cousins. I found the book. Seems I spoke too soon. It has many other lists in it, but not the list you're seeking. The title for anyone trying to reference it is "The Tinkling Spring, Headwater of Freedom", A Story of the Church and Her People 1732-1952 by Howard McKnight Wilson, ThD and it was written in 1954. It is long out of print. It's a wonderful reference for anyone studying the early settlers of the early Orange and Augusta Co., Va. area. Yes, I believe this list is also in the book called something like "The Tinkling Springs". I have a copy, but I can't find it right this minute in my terribly cluttered office.
