Jalena, Now I see, the link is broken. Don't know why that happens. You can copy and paste it back together in your address bar, Or go here http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~varussel/query/index.html and Click on the first link (in red). That should take you there. Michelle

Can someone tell me if the town of Wilder still exists? My husband's mother was born there. Her father was an immigrant who changed his last name and we don't know what it was. Part of the reason for believing in the Cherokee family on my side is that grandmother and, reportedly, her mother had such Indian looks. But nothing supports it so far. Also, one of grandmother's sisters reportedly married an Indian and went to live on a reservation--haven't tracked that one down either! Thanks again for all your help, I'm hopeful this is really leading somewhere--so far the pieces fit the way I thought things might have happened. Here's hopin' and thanks again. Wm & Frances Helbert & family (10 children including Mary E) were from Lebanon, Va in the 1860 & 1870 Census. For some reason they went to Hawkins Co Tn in 1880 and subsequently returned to Lebanon Va. My mother was a Puckett from Lebanon, Va. and her family told the same "Cherokee Indian Lineage" story. But grandmother's birth certificate gave William's birth place as Tennessee. Her mother, however, was born in Virginia. I'm not sure where. I just know William worked as a farmer in Lebanon through the 1890s until at least the 1920 census. By the 1930 census, they had moved to Cleveland, Russell County, and bought a house. What info I have comes from the Russell County genealogy web site and the census records and gransmother's birth certificate. My grandmother is Emma Roxie Fawbuss; born September 1896 in Lebanon, Russell County, VA. Her father was William Fawbuss, born in Tennessee. William was a farmer and he and his wife Mary moved to Cleveland, Russell County, when he retired. I have no info on his parents. I would also like to find out where he and Mary are buried. Emma's mother was Mary Elizabeth, born in Virginia. Would also like to find out Mary's maiden name. since I do not have it. Family history has it that Mary, at the very least, was Indian, but we aren't sure the tribe. I think Cherokee myself, but have no documentation. Mary supposedly looked very Indian, as did my grandmother. Emma also had a sister, name unknown, who married an Indian and went to live on a reservation, in the Carolinas I think. Grandmother also insisted we were related to Pochahontas. Her brother, Rals Felter Fawbuss, was an auto mechanic in Gladeville, Wise County. She had 2 sisters: Sallie and Nancy Jane.
