I'm just wondering if your James Ward is related to either of mine. 1. My gggggrandfather James Ward was also married to an Elizabeth (Williamson). He was born in 1758 in Fincastle Va but I can't find anything linking him definitively to any parents. He was a Rev War vet and Indian scout too. He was at the Seige of Bryan's Station and the Battle of Blue Licks in 1782. He served with George Rogers Clark in Indiana. He and Elizabeth settled at Rockcastle Creek in Floyd Co. (now Martin Co.) Ky in 1810. Their kids were Sarah, Alifair, Elizabeth, James Jr., Wells, Margaret, Solomon, Nathan,(died fighting for Union) George Washington, Morgania, Emanuel (died fighting for Union at Kennesaw Mt. Ga). 2. My second James Ward was from Russell Co. Va and married to Sarah Osborne. They moved to Floyd Co. (now Johnson) Ky abt. 1803 with sons Solomon, Shadrack, and William. Their daughters were Abby, Sarah, Elizabeth. Haven't found proof concerning his parents either but most seem to think he the son of William Ward who descends from immigrants James Ward and Sarah Rodgers. If anybody reads this and knows of any connections let me know please. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello Mike, Thanks so much for writing. Might I ask you if you remember a Lane Alexander or talking about those 3 boys and what it might have meant to have them "bound out as apprentices" at that time in Russell County history? (#Russell County court ordered that James Francis, John Chaney, Hezekiah Chaney, and Able Chaney, all poor children be bound out as apprentices in 1810. Court order 4 page 135.) We are descended from this John Chaney who married about 1817 to Elizabeth Blair and have been trying to clear up his parentage for more than two decades. The only record we know of regarding his "family of origin" might relate to this Overseers of the poor record. We think that Greenberry Chaney (various spellings) was his father but have found no proof of any of his family although he says he was from Russell County, VA born 1793. Thanks so much for your time, D and K ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael A. It's possible we did, but I don't remember discussing the records of the overseers of the poor. I've certainly never seen them at the courthouse. I have discussed my theories as to the first will and marriage books. As to having a lead on the location of either of these books or the records of the overseers of the poor, I'm sorry, but I don't have one.
