The extra category for males - the 16-18 year old category - is NOT an extra male but refers to a male in the 16-26 category who happened to be between 16-18 years old. WHY - the war of 1812 had concluded but the gov't was very very concerned of another war and needed a count of males who would be available to fight in the next ten years - thus the category of 16-18 males was created.
