    3. I would imagine it is where the tobacco is packed in barrels in preparation of rolling them to the river to be put on boats or barges for transport to market. Virginia has a number of "Rolling Roads" even now - but of course they are no longer needed to move tobacco from the farmers warehouses to a source for transport. --- Derrell Oakley Teat <margaret.teat2@verizon.net> wrote: > Essex Co Order Book 1716-1723 III > > Essex Co Court 18th of JULY 1721 > p 582: > Its ordered that the ROLLING HOUSE at HANNAH > GRAVES's & FRANCS PAGET's be > put down and RICHARD COVINGTON's is continued > it being according to Law > > It's ordered that the WARE HOUSES at ye CHURCH > of St. Annes Parish in > possision of JOHN HINES be ROLLING HOUSES, they > being according to Law. > > It's ordered that CORNELIUS SALE's ROLLING > HOUSE be put down and that one be > built at INGRAM'S LANDING accordign to Law > > It's ordered that JOHN ANDREW's ROLLING HOUSE > be put down and ye ROLLING > HOUSE at ROBT.
