I just received this message about Oakwood Cemetery. I'm sorry, I didn't make it more clear that I meant all of this is IN Bedford, Virginia that I was talking about. I'm pretty sure about the Longwood Ave. there, and it being off Rt.221. I'm certain of Bedford County Hospital being on Oakwood, since I had my daughter there! BUT, to add to that confusion...I believe they've changed the name of THAT hospital too. This cemetery I'm talking about is very near this Hospital, and the Elks National Home. I do believe it has a connection to them, perhaps involving the cemetery's name change. That's why I mentioned an old map might be helpful, because I believe in this area, even the main roads, like Route 221 have been changed around quite a bit in recent years. Virginia Baptist Hospital (where I was born!) and Oakwood Country Club are both on Rivermont Ave. in Lynchburg. Know both of these places very well too...but had never realized the similarities in names with Bedford before. No wonder some of us have troubles with pieces of our puzzles fitting in the right place! <grin> I'd hoped to help...now am hoping I didn't just add to the confusion by my message. Virginia Baptist Hospital is next door to Oakwood Country Club. There is no Longwood Ave - but is a Longwood Drive whic is about 2 blocks long and goes into nothing - is that possibly where cemetery is? Map does not mark cemeteries. I did a search of Campbell County cemeteries and there is no Oakwood listed. I live half an hour from Lynchburg on 460. If I knew where to look would be happy to do a lookup.
