First off I would like to share with you the fact that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I'm pleased to read that most of you have found the Family History Center helpful. This is wonderful! May I please clear up a couple of issues that seem to be troubling you? Most of the people who use the Family History Centers are NOT members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (Members are known as LDS, which stands for Latter-day Saints.) And being I have served in the Family History Centers I know for a fact that we do not care one way or another what faith the patrons belong to. We are only interested in helping them with their Family History. We love the work, we love genealogy and we love people. We want nothing more than to see their eyes light up when they have found a long lost grandparent or other ancestor. Bringing down their brick walls IS our goal and we are just as excited as they are when this takes place. Now for the accuracy of what you find at SLC or any of the other Family History Centers. All I can say is if it isn't documented with fact's look out. And yes some of the LDS members are in such a hurry to find their ancestors that at times they do mess up. I know that one for a fact because I have found my own past mistakes years later when going through files. I hate to admit it but I even listed the wrong father to my children in one file . . . now THAT'S BAD!!! But it does happen. I had best quickly correct it before I'm removed from my children's Christmas Card list. (LOL) As a member of the church, one of your cousins, and a fellow researcher I wish to welcome you, all of you, to the Family History Centers that are located near and far. And if you can ever get to the one in Salt Lake City, Utah . . . go for it!!! It's a dream come true. They are there to help you, and they will, too. Just present them with what information you already have and they will go the extra mile to help you find that pot of genealogical gold at the end of the rainbow. Take care and may God go with you, Dorene J. Stamper
