This book is an amazing genealogical work detailing the original land patents to French refugees and providing information on the many families. >From the introduction: "A detailed study of the French lands near Richmond, Virginia has been completed in this volume. It is a tribute to the courage of the French families who clung to their belief in the right to worship freely, and who succeeded in their flight to Manakintowne (Manakin), Virginia. A map of the large tract given to them has been drawn by the author and has been included in an envelope attached to the rear of this book. This map measures 28 x 20 inches, illustrating the 11-1/2 mile width of the French territory which comprised King William Parish. The survey for each French patent has been designated. A section has been composed for each patentee and contains his or her last will and testament, facts and theories concerned with the family, frequently including birth, marriage and death records, and a detailed study of the land. The French lands lie to the west of Richmond and were originally all in Henrico County. Parts of the land are located in what is now Goochland, Powhatan,! and Chesterfield Counties. Following is a list of the original patentees, some showing alternate spellings of the family name: Matthew Agee (Oage); Jacob Amonet; John Bernard; James Bilbaud; Stephen Buccard; William Byrd; Joseph Callio; Mitchell Campee; Jacob Capoone; Gideon Chamboon (Jambon); Stephen Chastain (Chastaine); John Chastaine; Peter Chastaine; Peter David; Richard Dean; Ann, Mary & Judith Delpish; Bartholomew Depuy (Dupee); Francis Dupee; Peter Dutoy; John Farcee; Jacob Florenoy (Flournoy); John Fonville; John Forcuron; Daniel Foure; Peter Foure; Anthony Gevodan; Glebe; Claude Gory (Gaury, Gawey, Guerri); John Harris; Richard Harris; James Holman; John Jones (Jouany); Isaac Lafeavour; Isaac Lafeit; John Lagran; Adam Lavean; John Lavillian; Davide LeSuer; Moses Liverau; Francis L'Orange; Maryan Mallet; Stephen Mallet; John Martin; Margaret Martin; Anthony Mattoone; Abraham Misshuex (Michaux); Peter Moriset; Lewis Morrill; John Panitour; Isaac Parentau; Charles Perault; john Peter Perue; Anthony Rapine; Abraham Remey (Remmy); Stephen Renno; Peter Sabotte; Abraham Sallee (Salle, Salley); Fr! ancis Sassin; Abraham Soblet; John Soleager; Nicholas Souillie; Anthony Trabue (Tribue).
