Hi all, FYI, the new search window at the top of Obituary Central has tons of obits from all over but there are thousands from Virginia. http://www.obitcentral.com Also, Marriage Search Engines at http://www.genlookups.com/marriages.htm has a Virginia search. Hope these help. Bill
Can anyone help with this question? I have a copy of an 1842 Va. Marriage Bond. Would there have existed any other document relating to the marriage - a license or consent? The man was 44 and the bride 14. If so, where might it be found? At the county courthouse? or the Va. State Archives? I'm hoping such a document will provide the names of the parents of the couple. Doris ******* Since VA law was very well settled by the decade in which this event took place, and since a bond was posted, there would have been a "license" for the marriage and a "minister's return", the latter revealing that the marriage ceremony in fact was performed. Whether or not those documents have survived will only be revealed by a search of the archives, both of VA and in the county where the license was issued (same county as that in which the bond was posted). The license would reveal who gave permission for HER marriage, and the bond would have been posted by a close friend or relative, almost certainly. It also might help you to check the courts' minutes and any church records for the period within a month or so previous to and after the bond date, since her age might have required some additional attention by the county court of the marriage, the girl, her parents or of that bond. Good luck. Paul
