    3. My Tams forebears were potters - and until very recently there was still a Tams Pottery at Stokes on Trent in Stafforshire. I have been told that variations of the name include Tams, Thames, Thom. --- Tony & Julie Howell <tjhowell1@comcast.net> wrote: > if the "a" in TAMS is pronounced with a long-a > sound, then we might have something. hope so. > there is some research data that a few of our > THAMESes were living in Buxton, which is not > far from Burslem, in the mid to late 1500s. > > Julie Thames Howell > Jax, Fla > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Emaress Nova > To: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2003 12:43 PM > Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] Roll Call - surname > THAMES > > > is TAMS perhaps a variant of your THAMES? 3. Tams is this country is pronounced to rhyme with jams. No idea how pronounced in merry olde England. most likely the a is as a in father. I found some Thoms in England too and conversely found some Tams in Germany. Remember the brits are as much a polyglot people as we are. The royal family in England is from Germany. --- Tony & Julie Howell <tjhowell1@comcast.net> wrote: > do you know how the "a" in Tams was pronounced? > > > while Tams may be of English origin Thom is, i > believe, German. > > Julie > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Emaress Nova > To: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2003 8:27 PM > Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] Roll Call - surname > THAMES > > > My Tams forebears were potters - and until > very > recently there was still a Tams Pottery at > Stokes > on Trent in Stafforshire.
