    1. Another Thanksgiving Try
    2. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Our history books certainly look to the earliest colonies, their people, the European (white/anglo) population, and rightly so, as we are an English speaking nation as it worked out. And the history teacher said these early folks were told "go westward young man" and they did and we research and see that they in fact really did for the most part. Here in El Paso, Texas, we also have a history of a different perspective. Down south of us the area had Native Americans or Native Peoples. These folks were conquered by warrior types mainly from Spain. And maybe down there someone told them in Spanish "Go northward young man" and they did. The Spanish warrior/conquistador Juan deOnate and his group came thru the Chihuahua desert northward and when they happily reached the Rio Grande River they held a large Thanksgiving party right here near El Paso. This was in 1598. So, here in our more obscure parts we celebrate that one also, and claim it as the first Thanksgiving. Of course these jokers spoke Spanish so they don't count for most everyone else. But we like our claim. Unfortunately these Spanish did a very bad number on the Native people, just as the more refined (?) northern European folks did in turn. An unfortunate kind of similarity. Ken.
