England, (was born in 1659 and died in 1727. He) was (Attorney General, Secretary of State, Presi)dent (of the Council, and from 1706-1710) Acting- (Governor of the Colony of Virginia. For many years he was a Vestryman of Bruton) Parish (and was serving the Church in this capacity) when (this building was erected. in 1710 he was) instrumen- (tal in persuading the House of Burgesses "to a)ppro- (priate a sufficient sum of money for the bui)lding (pews for the Governor, Coucil and House) of Bur- (gesses" in the two wings and intervening part) of (the Church, this entire portion of the Church) being (subsequently built and paid for by the Hou)se of (Burgesses under the supervision of Gover)nor (Alexander Spotswood.) (This marble was placed here at the time of) the (restoration of the Church in 1905.) Listed under MURAL TABLET on page 75 on the North Wall, Nave is an inscription listing the name of Hon. Edmund Jenings 1710 with others. Page 76 includes his name on the North Wall again in memory of the vestry of 1710-1715 (along with other names). Page 83 gives his name one last time as occupying a pew along with other names of governors and lieutenant governors.
