I think what the NY Time reports is what has and will make it difficult for DNA Project Groups to get people to have their DNA done. We at the Hendricks DNA Project are up front with anyone who wants their DNA tested or indicate they want it tested. We don't sneak around and contrive to get samples. We provide free DNA data sets of Hendricks DNA participants once a person is established to be in a certain group of Hendricks. We connect them to their kin. We also provide free a 2 Gigabit DVD of Hendricks Family data bases; mostly research data showing family deeds. wills, probate, church and census records. We also help the person find his family lineage through knowledgeable Hendricks helpers who help do research on their family lineage. I believe the people who contributed the input to the New York Times apparently led them to believe what is published in the articles. I have always believed where there is smoke there is often fire. It is a shame something like this has to get published in a major newspaper when so many surname DNA Project work hard to help people find their family and never work any contrivance to do so. ----- Original Message ----- From: freedbyluvv To: varoots@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2007 3:46 PM Subject: [VAROOTS] Original N.Y. Oh, come on, People, lighten up. I got a real good chuckle out of the article. I have been doing genealogy using "conventional" methods since before courthouses even had copy machines but I've bought kits for a couple of male cousins and made a crack in a couple of brick walls. We will NEVER be able to dispense with conventional methods but this is an exciting new tool that I am more than happy to embrace. Right now I'm waiting for a chance to steal my brother's toothbrush. ;-). Happy Easter! MWF
