Several weeks ago I posted an e-mail on several genealogy lists to ascertain interest in a “Proctor Gathering” during the Jamestown 400th anniversary celebration May 11-13, 2007. Two people who have a connection to John Proctor who arrived in Jamestowne Colony ca. 1608/09 responded. At this point, I am being joined by at least one other Proctor descendant in Surry, VA just across the James River from Jamestown. My Proctor line extends from Surry County, VA to Mecklenburg County, VA at the NC/VA line, then across to Granville County/Vance County, NC (GGF Frank J. Proctor b: 18 June 1823 in VA, m: Sarah Frances Owen 22 June 1865 in Granville County, NC, d: 5 June 1900 in Vance County, NC), and eventually to Hertford County, NC (GF Moses Daniel Proctor b: 8 Dec 1868 in Granville County, NC, m: Agnes Lee Garrard 28 May 1899, d: 28 Nov 1942 in Hertford County, NC). Let’s see how many Proctor descendants we can gather to honor our common ancestor John Proctor of Virginia during this very special event.
