    1. Re: [VAROOTS] State boundary changes over the years
    2. The boundary between Va and NC did not change all that much over the years so unless they were right on the line, I wouldn't count on that. Seems to me there was some confusion between Va and NC going through the Great Dismal Swamp and the line was settled by a survey by George Washington. Of course WVa split off at the beginning of the War Between the States and I don't think that boundary bounced around much (if at all) either. Bev In a message dated 6/30/2007 1:42:16 A.M. However, with all the boundary changes of the states over the years I think that perhaps they might now be listed in other states, such as West Virginia, and North Carolina. Can anyone help me or direct me to a website that will help me understand when, and where the boundaries changed. I have been working on my Jones family history since the early 1970's and here I am still working on them, and really no further back than in the 70's? I will appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer me. My Jones' started in Virginia, then moved to Tennessee then to Arkansas, and my gg-grandfather who was born in 1833 in Virgina came to Texas. 3. Boundaries between Virginia did not change much, but counties that were originally Virginia became West Virginia - somebody who was born in say Monroe County, VA after the break found themselves in Monroe County, WV. In other words it had no set western boundary. I think each of the original colonies was pretty much started open to the west. After all no one REALLY knew how far "west" was back then. I know that's a bit of a stretch, but something that needs to be kept in mind if your research actually get back that far. -- (o:]>*HUGGLES*<[:o) Billie Walsh The three best words in the English Language: "I LOVE YOU" Pass them on!
