    2. MAY 22 1871 ON FRIDAY, 26TH INSTANT AT 11:30PM after a long and painfull illness, EDWARD BALLARD youngest son of THOMAS E. AND ALICE A. JONES, AGED 1 YR 6 MONTHS 1 DAY. The fuenral will take palce from the residence of his parents NO. 8 COVE STREET at 3pm. This afternoon. MAY 26 1871 AT 1PM, MAY 25, 1871 after an illness of a few days. MRS. MISSOURI FRANCES the beloved wife of JOHN R. ROSS AGE 20 YEARS, 8 MONTHS 5 DAYS. By her death she leaves one child. Her funeral will take place from the residence of her husband on the corner of North And Jefferson Streets at 4PM This afternoon. MAY 27, 1871 The following is a correct copy of the inquest held by Isaac Evans, (B), Justice of the Peace and acting Coroner in Norfolk County over the body of JOSEPH WILLIAMSON. A more fuller information of the deceased JOSEPH WILLIAMSON herby did I authorize Mr. Micton Cuthrell to summon 12 jures to determin when and how the said JOSEPH WILLIAMSON came to his death. The Jury coroner Doctor all agreed he came to his death on the 3rd day of March 1871 about midnight and he lied until the 5th day of march on the Count of weather he came to his death in GEORGE W. PORTLOCKS woods about 2 miles and a half this side of great bridge on the great road he ran (un readable)... of the rain sot down cross ways with his pipe in his mouth and part of a block of matches on side of him and the little sapling pine that stood at the end of the wigwarm lighting commence at top with a small streak become it nearly preface the pine came to his death with is pipe in his mouth and it remained until inquest where held over him the expense of JOSEPH WILLIAMSON coffin was provided for some other way beside county expenses but the corner constable and the judges and doctor will have to be provided for according to the law. Isaac Evans a justice of the said county and acted coroner. MAY 30, 1871 - NORFOLK VIRGINIAN We regret to announce the death of MRS. MARY ANN, wife of MR. JOHN L. WEAVER. She died yesterday morning at 5am. She was 51 yrs of age. Her funeral will take place from ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH At 11am this monring. MAY 31 1871, TUES. DEC 9 1871 We regret to announce this morning of the death of M.R G.W. SHELLCUP of this city, which occurred about 6pm last evening. the deceased was the first assistant engineer of the fire department of this city and his funeral will be attened by the firemen in a body. the fire dept of NORFOLK are also invited to be present. the funeral will take place at 2pm on sunday afternoon from the late residence of the deceased in GOSPORT. A funeral notice in our issue of yesterday informed the public of the untimely death of one of our townsmen, who though quiet and unobtrusive in his manner, was rickly entitiled to the gratide and respect of the citizens of Norfolk. We speak of MR. JOHN PATTEN , an adopted citizen who in the late struggle shouldered his musket in the 6th Virginia Infantry and fought bravely to the bitter end. Since that time he has served the city faithfull and creditably upon the police force to the members of which he was endeared by his many good traits of character. His funeral took place yesterday afternoon and his remains were followed to their last resting place by the St. Patrick's beneficial society of which he was a member in good standing, and by a detachment of the police force besides a number his sorrowing friends and acquaintances. TUNSTALL 51 YRS. We neglected at the time to notice the death of MR. J. WILEY HOWARD after a long illness from consumption and he was buried on the 4th of july. At the breaking out of the war he JOINED COMPANY D. 61 Virginia Regiment FROM PORTSMOUTH and continued with the regiment until the battle of spotslyvania courthouse where he lost a leg. weakness and ..... caused by the loss of his leg brought on consumption and after a lingering illness he died on the 3rd. He was a good soldier and has gone to his (blurry). AUG. 5. 1872 DEPARTED THIS LIFE AUGUST 3RD AT 3AM. MRS. ALICE JULIA WESTON late consort of W.W. WESTON ESQ OF Deep Creek VA. (today chesapeake) and daughter of DR. R.H. WORTHINGTON OF BRANCHVILLE P.A.C. IN THE 21ST YEAR OF HER AGE. AUGUST 10 1872 NORFOLK VIRGINIAN ON FRIDAY, at 9am. DR. ZACHARIAH SYKES age of 65 years.
