    1. [VAROOTS] Roanoke Lost Colony of North Carolina
    2. Liz Cunningham
    3. Personally I do not know much about the Lost Colony, history class knowledge only. Yet, I have read some about it since it was mentioned here on the list. The Lost Colony is a part of America's history, and I know that without studying American history along with doing my genealogy I would not have been able to complete my mother's dad's family history back to 1747 in Ireland, and almost competed my three other grandparents, as well as three significant side lines. The study of history is a necessary ingredient for genealogists. I am a Proud, Native, True Melting Pot American, and have developed an even deeper love and appreciation for this country and our society since starting my research over 30 years ago. Please continue putting these types of things on our list, when we stop learning we die, at least mentally and "a mind is a terrible thing to waste". Just a note I did further study into state and county border and boundary changes over the course of our Nation's history. During this study I realized that at one time North Carolina (along with several other states) was once part of Virginia (just like at one time several other states was once a part of Texas, and I am a born, bred and Proud Texan). Now I have added another generation to my family history, and received verification of that fact last night. The truth is, I be a part of the Lost Colony descendants and just not know it. (and I have a graduate degree from a very good university) History and genealogy goes hand in hand, or it goes no where. Perhaps I should take that DNA test, I might learn more. All four sides of my family lived in Virginia and other northern states at one time.
