Good Evening I am transcribing the 75 page pension application for one Thomas Franklin from Campbell County(when he applied for pension but it had been in Bedford County before Campbell was formed) and I am having trouble reading a couple of place names. The first say "....and joined the main army Commanded by General Dawson, at a place called Holtz' Forge(??) in the lower part of the said state of Virginia. from thence the army was marced up to a place called _alvom Hill a short distance below Richmond...." This took place in the 1776 and 1777 time frame. I would appreciate any assistance Doug Burnett ************************************** Get a sneak peak of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
There is a Holts Crossing in Campbell County, VA and Holts Corner in Hanover County, which is in the Richmond area. Campbell is in Lynchburg area. My God provides my every need according to His riches in glory. Amen ____________________________________________________________________________________ Got a little couch potato? I'm not sure, but I'm guessing you're looking at Malvern Hill, near Richmond, in old Henrico Co VA. I have Franklin relatives, including one Thomas, born Thomas "Edward" born 1808 Charlotte, d. 1887 Pittsylvania, s/o (?) Edward Franklin b.1778 Prince Edward Co d.May 1859 Pittsylvania. But among my records, not knowing if the above is totally correct, I have a Thomas Franklin b. 1751 Bedford (it would have really been Lunenburg at that point) or perhaps 1757 Bedford, depending on how you read the transcription, Bedford, died 1841 Campbell Co VA m Margaret Campbell, 1779 Bedford Co VA.
