    2. All of you who addressed the original query on this topic need to by or at least read the excellent book Atlas of County Boundary Changes in Virginia, 1634-1895 by Michael F. Doran, copyright 1987, published by Iberian Publishing Company, 548 Cedar Creek Drive, Athens, GA. Nearly all of the well known genealogical publishing houses carry it. This is a MUST book for anyone trying to do Early Virginia research. One needs to READ the whole book, not just look at the maps. Virginia was the "mother" of West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and parts of Michigan and Wisconsin. Also, see page 5, included there are partly or wholly all of the current states of North Carolina, South Carolina as well as a small part of Alabama and Florida. It is very complicated topic. 3. If you are going to do research in Virginia I believe this book is essential. It may even explain that your ancestors didn't move after all, the counties just changed.
