If you go to the county formation maps of VA you will find many strange things such as Kentucky being a county in VA. Possibly what the person who made the post misread the text as there were PA counties in VA at one time. Memory tells me the name of the county was the western most county of PA. Its name started with M and there are many records in VA concerning this county. If one remembers VA awarded land grants to RW soldiers in KY and as far west as OH after the RW all at that time still part of VA. Also VA has had a number of name changes and discontinued county names. To ascertain all this data one needs to study the county formation maps of VA. At the moment I cannot give you the name of the but a copy always sets centrally in the VA Archives in Richmond for people to study and copy. Hello All, One last map I found in a copy of Scharf's "History of Maryland". This one is called "Southern Armies" - mostly VA and the Carolinas. If anyone is interested in viewing it it's scanned and online at http://www.midatlanticarchives.com Alan RESEARCHING: Buckingham, Gilpin, Eastburn, Jeanes, Nowland, Wade, Creswell, Abernathy and related families -- No virus found in this outgoing message. To me that would be where I would start - Pittsylvania County. But if you can pass along the person's name and time they were born, maybe the census records for that family will show where they were at that time. I found a Pendleton County, founded 1787, terminated 1863 to West Virginia. It is tucked in between Rockingham and Highland counties, Virginia. That's as close as I could get. There is also Penn's colony, early PA settlement, William Penn's Quaker establishment, I forget what county it was in, but that was very early.
The Middle Peninsula was never known as Penn Co - neither was the Lower or Upper Peninsula - I'd go for Pendleton Co. Bev In a message dated 3/22/2007 10:55:10 P.M.
