I believe your most direct and reliable source for the location of any real estate will be the deed records on that county. ----- Original Message ----- From: Donald Zochert To: VA-ROOTS@LISTLVA.LIB.VA.US Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2007 1:47 PM Subject: [VA-ROOTS] Frederick County, civil jurisdictions, 1810-1820 Hello, Can someone recommend a source of information (incl. maps) about civil jurisdictions in Frederick County between 1810 and 1820, especially "township" boundaries, militia districts, possibly magisterial districts? I'm not sure "township" is the right word; Ancestry uses it in indexing the 1810 Federal census for Frederick. On a related note, I wonder if someone familiar with the 1810 Federal census in Frederick County could answer this: Does the fact that a household's location is "not stated" rather than given as a specific "township" such as Pughtown or Front Royal provide any clue as to where in the county that household was physically located? Does the classification "not stated" (or simply "Frederick County," as Crickard has it) suggest a specific "unincorporated" location in the county, or does it simply mean the enumerator put no location on that sheet of the return and the household could have been anywhere, say Winchester or Middletown or Berryville? Thanks, Don Zochert To subscribe, change options, or unsubscribe please see the instructions at http://listlva.lib.va.us/archives/va-roots.html

He was born abt. 1811 somewhere in Virginia, married Martha Wadkins, and their first known child was born in Virginia in 1833, as was their 2nd child in 1835. But in 1839 their 3rd child and all following children were born in Hardeman County, Tennessee. Perhaps if I know what county they were in 1830, I can find some information on James' ancestry. At this point I can go no further back, I do not even know for sure how to spell Martha's surname, is it Wadkins or Watkins. I am unable to find anyone who is willing to lay claim to either of them, except their descandants and we know very very little about them. I will be finished with the index about the first week in April and will be printing and shipping around mid to late April. The book will be over 500 pages with an index. I intend to have it either comb or spiral bound (whichever makes it the easiest to handle and also allows it to remain sturdy. I do not expect payment until I am ready to ship the book. This book is 20 years of my research and about 10-15 years of my uncle's research. Not all the research has been verified but comes from very reliable sources and most would be easy to verify yourself, once you know where to start (which is the purpose of this book). Just to give you an idea of the number of individuals in this book, there are about 1,500 Clay individuals which are 7 index pages, the index will be about 40 pages. Other surnames include Bedford, Belcher, Watkins, Barbour, Bruce, Duvall, Finch, Green, Lewis, Lockett, McDowell, Moran, Morrison, Pearis, French,! Prewitt, Rogers, Smith, Stewart, Stuart, Thompson, Trabue and many, many, more. There is also a slave index for those slaves listed in will and court records If you would like to place an order please let know so I can get a count for the printer.
