    1. [VAROOTS] Looking for Voter REgistration Help
    2. Good Morning to All I am trying to find when my Mathew O'Brien of Lynchburg/Campbell/Bedford Virginia arrived in the US fm Ireland. Folk lore says 1840. Now to prove or disapprove. I have been searching records for his oath but no luck so far. Is anyone on the list familiar with Voter Registration records for this area of Va and how far back they go? Thanks in advance Doug ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. I have not had the luxury of finding any information for myself, but I added my "2 cents" with the hopes that it helps someone else. That price hike is preposterous. I hope our combined emails will help hold the price down some. 3. Just sent the following comments: "Re: NARA-07-0001-0001 My first comment is that the NARA is going to cripple the historical and/or genealogical research done by tens of thousands of Americans by taking this terrible leap in pricing for copies of military and other relevant records. Genealogy is one of the fastest-growing hobbies in the US, especially among retirees who now have the time to research, but not necessarily the funds to pay these ridiculously costly fees for photocopies. A bill of $125 for records from one file is drastically going to reduce the number of people who can expect to research those records. I know it is well beyond my means, and those of almost all my friends. My second comment is that there are funds from the Federal government available for almost any hair-brained notion that is conceived, but not enough money in the whole multi-trillion dollar federal budget to keep and copy these invaluable historical records?! Thirteen trillion for the Boston Big Dig alone, and the NARA can't furnish our interested citizens with fifteen-cent copies of historical military records for less than $125.00? It is reasonable to expect that the costs of research goes up like everything else, but to force a 400 percent increase on mostly elderly or middle aged folks is unconscionable! Please reconsider this unpalatable price increase and make it something that people less than wealthy can afford. I shall forward copies of my comments to my representatives in Congress. 1. [VAROOTS] PROCTOR Gathering in Surry, VA
    2. Several weeks ago I posted an e-mail on several genealogy lists to ascertain interest in a “Proctor Gathering” during the Jamestown 400th anniversary celebration May 11-13, 2007. Two people who have a connection to John Proctor who arrived in Jamestowne Colony ca. 1608/09 responded. At this point, I am being joined by at least one other Proctor descendant in Surry, VA just across the James River from Jamestown. If you are interested in an informal “Proctor Gathering” on Friday, May 11th in Surry, please contact me via the list or e-mail me at ProctorC@worldnet.att.net as soon as possible for more specific information. My Proctor line extends from Surry County, VA to Mecklenburg County, VA at the NC/VA line, then across to Granville County/Vance County, NC (GGF Frank J. Proctor b: 18 June 1823 in VA, m: Sarah Frances Owen 22 June 1865 in Granville County, NC, d: 5 June 1900 in Vance County, NC), and eventually to Hertford County, NC (GF Moses Daniel Proctor b: 8 Dec 1868 in Granville County, NC, m: Agnes Lee Garrard 28 May 1899, d: 28 Nov 1942 in Hertford County, NC). Let’s see how many Proctor descendants we can gather to honor our common ancestor John Proctor of Virginia during this very special event. I just found a record in the Civil War database of someone who died there in 1862, and I've never heard of it. What county or town would it be in? Thanks.
