Don't overlook the possibilities that may be available to you through the gen./hist. societies at the place - the "where" - that your person died. If you are unable to determine that "where", it likely will be helpful to move forward from where he/she was born or lived at some date. -----Original Message----- From: varoots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:varoots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sandy Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2007 8:18 AM To: varoots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] death in 1921 Thanks for your suggestions but, the problem is that the only piece info I have is that the person died in 1921...nothing else. I am not a Brown descendent or researcher; however, my Aunt, Annie Laurie Strickland, was married to Henry Randall Brown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on December 25, 1936. Henry Randall Brown was born January 4, 1909; and, if my memory is not too far off, I believe that he died approximately 1961. Henry Randall Brown was the son of Simon Henry Brown (DOB June 1, 1863 and DOD August 19, 1935). Simon Henry Brown married Devalsco Eugenia Hargrove, daughter of Daniel Jackson and Elizabeth Thomas Hargrove, on December 1, 1891. Last week I was going through some old pictures and came across a folder with the heading of "The Browne Family of Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama -- Rock Hill, S.C. July 25, 1956." It begins with, "Full credit for this work is given to Col. Woolsey Finnell of Tuscaloosa, Ala., who spent many years and much money collecting the data for it, to his family, and especially to his daughter, Mrs. Nubie Livingston, who did the major part of the correspondence, the assimilating of this material, and typing it." (NOTE: The information in the first paragraph of this message regarding Henry Randall Brown's parents, date of birth and date of marriage to Annie Laurie Strickland is also taken from the information prepared and in the folder giving credit to research of Col. Woolsey Finnel.) The information in the folder begins first regarding Thomas Brown's will that was probated in 1765 in what was then Jerusalem, but is now Courtland, in Southampton County, Virginia. The name of his wife was unknown. Then it mentions Dr. Jesse Browne who was a prominent doctor. There is quite a bit of information on those who come after. Should anyone like me to look up any names, please give me as much information as you can and I will try to help in any way that I can. Carolyn Strickland Smalley Alabama

Where can I find the exact death date on someone who died in 1921 in Rockbridge County, Virginia? Thank you. Sandy Gilmore
Okay - I have an old one on an LDS film - 2167844 - image number 19 - I haven't transcribed all of it and I'm leaving for vacation soon - would you 1) be interested? 2) want to transcribe it yourself? or 3) let me do it? 4) have the image no matter what? It looks like it came from a minister's notebook. The film is of minister's returns of Shenandoah county, VA 1772-1877. Image 19 = obit daughter of Cornelius _____ Elkin wife of Col. Hi All, Our real "heart thorb" is colonial records for Virginia. We love to get colonial records when we can. Amelia County has tithable lists from 1736-1782. Our original CD had photocopy scans of these tithable lists. We are currently scanning the microfilm of these tithable lists and reconfiguring our CDs for Amelia tithables. This week's free sample is the 1749 Amelia Tithable List. These are the same images that will be included on our CDR-000303, the Amelia Colonial 1736-1771 Tithable Lists. You can access these free samples at: http://www.binnsgenealogy.com/FreeSample/CDR-000303/1749/ There are 19 images. All the images total almost 17 mbs so it could take some time to download. Have fun. These microfilm images are mostly negative images of photostatic copies. This required image processing to allow normal viewing. Image 18 has an original image as scanned for your comparison to our processed image that we supply on CD. Steve and Bunny Binns Genealogy CD Series http://www.BinnsGenealogy.com/

Guess I can't see a problem with this.. but to advertise, that is another issue in my opinion. Just my two cents worth... Kristina, I have a record of a marriage in Augusta County, VA in 1761 taken from a minister's hand written record. Would you be interested in a copy of that? If so email me and I will attach it to you. Dorothy C. White dotwhite@comcast.net
ok, i finished adding 1873 marriage's to the website, if there is a month missing, then the page was missing off the microfilm.................. Also added a few 1873 death/obits. mostly were infants................... starting 1874 today........................... I will eventually go into norfolk and get earlier ones, as the norfolk papers start around 1800. Also made some changes to the mead pages................ for those who care: i finally got my water leak fixed in the front yard, ($300) whew.............. the house around the block had same leak and they must have paid through the roof because they had industrial machines out there......... and then ended up with the exact same patch in the driveway as me. now i wonder when the next guy is going to get his fixed................ it seems there was a recall of this quest pipe years ago, seems they all tend to split..at the water meter................ bah humbug...... you can see these patches all over the neighborhood................ oh and for those of you who want to smile....... at my "sillyness" i found myself deep in coversation yesterday, at the library with an elderly gentleman about PAC & NORFOLK counties and boundries etc. and i was trying to sound "expertly" only to find out that he was a decendent of one of the VERY FIRST landowner's in NORFOLK/PAC COUNTY adam thorowgood.......... he was so nice and never disagreed or anything, and i even helped him read some documents from 1624.... oh i was never so embarrassed in my whole life........................... would you accept contributions (ie, money) from any of us who appreciate your work and taking over the Norfolk site? I think even $5 from here and there would make your time easier, or pay for your lunch downtown if nothing else. and, as a lateral descendent of Adam Thorowgood, can you share the last name of the gent? I suspect I know whose eyes must have been twinkling while you spoke (twinkling, not critical, mind you). Lynne, I'll have the completed index of this book up soon. Sorry about the problem with the location of the Morgan Log House. That is a photo that someone sent me to post online for them and they id'd it as Berks Co. I will have to fix that. Let me know if you ever come across any Jeanes family in Montgomery Co., PA. Yes, please send me your upcoming events list. I am not too far away (New Castle Co., DE) plus I'll post the events in the "New and Events" section of my web site if you'd like. I, like many others, greatly appreciate it! I was absolutely amazed when one previous "Photo of the Month" was for Catawissa, Pa.! Little Catawissa, how about that? Presently, Catawissa is a very small town and, it's population was even smaller (under 2,000) when my grandmother lived there up until her death in 1961. Thank you for the photo! I have been anxiously waiting for the index to be completed on, "Collections of the Virginia Historical Society Vol. V: The Huguenot Emigration", to see if includes my ancestor, Randall Revell. There is a town called Revel in southwestern France which may be the ancestral home of the Revells but, it is not documented. Randall Revell fought at La Rochelle (France) in 1628 and after the fall of La Rochelle in 1629 fled to Bristol (England) with his father and mother. Shortly after that, Randall Revell fled to Virginia. Randall Revell appears in records in Accomack County, Virginia in January 1633/34. In Robert Bennet Beau's. "The Peopling of Virginia", 1935 he discusses the Huguenot colony at Mannokin town (above Richmond) and goes on to mention the Revell family (page 8) as one of that group. Is this what is mentioned in the "Collections of the Virginia Historical Society" or perhaps another source I an not aware of? I can't wait to find out more about what is in the book! I have been waiting for the index so I may check for ancestors. I was delighted to read the index was half completed!. Any way, when I tried to access the partial index you mentioned, I was not able to do it. The June photo of the month identifies the Morgan Log House. I live a few miles away from the Morgan Log House in Towamencin Twp., Montgomery County (not Berks County as identified in the photo description). I am a member of The Towamencin Chapter of the DAR, this month's newsletter includes a photo of the Morgan Log House as well as activities that are scheduled for this summer. I was wondering if you might be interested in this information about the activities? Again, many thanks for your hard work!
