    3. I'm searching for the grandparents of Benjamin Harrison Rose b 08-08-1892 d 09-23-1952 Dickenson County VA. He was the son of Frank (aka Ned) Rose b approx 1874 by Mary Ann Dutton b approx 2/1878 Marrage 7/19/1888. "Ned" had a younger brother William J (aka Jeems) Rose b approx 1879 who married Mary Ann's sister Sarah Jane (aka Jane) Dutton. Sometime after 1892 Jeems shot and killed his brother Ned. Because of similarity of names in the Rose line, I'm unable to determine the parentage of these two brothers. I believe it to be a Franklin Edward who would be born circa 1850-1865. The two marriages lists Jane Dutton born in Ky. and Mary Dutton born in Virginia. The Duttons were from the Martin-Lawrence County Kentucky area and moved back and forth for a while before settling down in South of the Mountain area of Wise County which later became Dickenson County. Any help would be much appreciated. ALSO, pls do not confuse with Frank Rose who married a Sarah or Sally. Thanks! Angelee

    3. Hi Freddie - Thanks for your response - but no, William was disabled having lost his right foot and ankle at Hatcher's Run at the end of the Civil War. He was a teacher and sometimes listed as a singing master. What she listed was that he died of sunstroke and concussion to the brain. I presume he must have fallen and struck his head. He lived in Warrenton, according to all records we have. I suppose Shenandoah Junction could be construed as a rail junction - but wondering why he was there. One of those mysteries. William B. Beamer was my great grandfather --- Freddie Spradlin <fspradlin@earthlink.net> wrote: > > > > > According to application for widow's pension, > > Martha V. 3. Opequon Creek, forms the border between the southern halves of Berkeley Co, WV & Jefferson Co, WV, so I'd assume that there's a political division of Berkeley Co (not necessarily a community) named Berkeley Twp, for purposes of the census. The VA community of Opequon, lies at the headwaters of Opequon Creek. Regards, Freddie S. > Opequon is in panhandle of West Virginia in > Jefferson County. 1. RE: [VAROOTS] Where am I?
    2. Rex Kirby
    3. Ginny, Close but not quite. I'm in Texas. More specifically, The Rose Capital of the World. From what I can determine, my branch of Kirbys [grgrfather] came directly from SC to TX with the Garners and a number of other families in the late 1870s. I'm sure they stopped along the way but apparently didn't put down any roots. There was any number of Kirbys who went to GA but I haven't connected to them so far. The story is that Richard Monroe Kirby abt 19 and his younger brother John, abt 15, decided to go west with the wagon train of several families pulling out of the Spartanburg, SC area (exact location unknown). They waved goodbye to their Mama and Papa and a couple of younger sisters until they were out of sight (and so far as I have been able to determine, never saw them again) Richard had eyes on Annie Laura Garner abt 14. Followed her all the way to TX and married her in abt 1882. Have not been able to find a record of their marriage but first child was born Aug 1883, d.July 1884 in Smith Co. TX. So far as I know none of Richard's or John's descendants found their way to ARK but don't know about uncles or cousins, etc. Rex -----Original Message----- From: Virginia Welding [mailto:virginia162@webtv.net] Sent: Monday, June 23, 2003 7:51 AM To: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] Help! Many Houchins moved to Ohio and later Washington State. I have a lot of information about these Houchins from Goochland. Looking for a Mary(Polly) Cosby who married a Houchins from Goochland County. Was later in Ohio. One of her descendents was a Mary Elizabeth Houchins. Mary Eliz. was married several times, was last married to a R.M. Robertson in Washington State. He died there abt. 1920. She died in Montana. Would love to hear from anyone connected . ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mwj819@aol.com> To: <VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 23, 2003 7:27 AM Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] Hutchens research in Mathews County, VA > christine - I am not researching this name but I do have some of them living next my family that I am researching in King William County, Virginia in 1870 census I believe.
