    3. Dear Kristina..What a blessing that you are O.K. We have to count those blessings sometimes don't we. My grgrandfather was John R.Pace b.1809. He was married to an Elizabeth P.?? b.abt.1814 They are living in Fluvanna in 1850 and1880 There first child John Walker Pace was b. 1843 Do you think you could possibly find where and when they were married. Thanks for whatever you can find. And hope you continue to recover from your accident. 2. I figure as along as I am grounded (no car) I might as well do lookups, something to keep busy with. (I had decided to go up to Richmond for the day (last friday) to do Museums and maybe a library or two when we had gotten a block from our destination, stopped at a stop sign, were hit by a DUMP TRUCK coming down hill at an excelerated speed.) Everyone lived. And everyone is black and blue, and green and yellow, but no broken bones, thank god. We are just greatful to be a live. 3. Kristina, I am so sorry to learn of your accident, but how kind of you to offer to do something that will help someone else. Could you possibly check your New Kent records to see if you have any STONE or CURLE marriage records. I am specifically looking for an Alexander W. Stone and a Lucy Ann Curle, but would be very happy to get a record of any Stone or Curle. It might help to track down other family members. Thank you so much. 1. Re: [VAROOTS] Women & Children 1619
    2. I have never seen a list but I would think there is one somewhere. I know one of my ancestors, Sarah Woodson came over in 1619 with her husband DR. John Woodson. In addition they were actively trying to get women to come over to marry the bachelors here. In my copy of "The First 17 Years in Virginia" on page 24 it says, "The first of the "maids" sent in this new program reached Virginia in late May and early June 1620 seemingly to the benefit of both "maids" and eligible bachelors. In 1621 it was reproted tha in Decembrer theWarwick arrived with "and extraordinary choice lot of thirty-eight maides for wives." You might be able to find most of them in Nell Nugents's "Cavaliers and Pioneers" since they were most likely claimed for transportation. 3. Well no one seem to know, I was able to find on the National Archives site that the numbers in the vet, deaf, blind columns the census surveyors used the area for caculations, but I could not find what the different numbers in the farm schedule column means. So if their is anyone who knows, as that info is not on the NARA site. Thanks Heather I am searching the 1910 Census of Caldwell County, North Carolina. I have found an Uncle and in reading the information that is put down for him I am confused. According to the information; he is a carpenter, the establishment is hard to read(that's okay), it his own account, then in ownershipe of home is; that he owns, free, house, (under number of farm schedule is) 12 then for the columns 30(Civil War Vet), 31 (Wether Blind), and 32 (Wether deaf) are the following numbers -2 -9 -8 Any clue what these numbers mean???? Unless all my information is wrong, including what is at the begining of the census about his age, he cannot be a Civil War Survivor, he was born 1864. Thank you Heather Olsen ==== NCCALDWE Mailing List ====

    3. I don't have any specific books to mention to you, without knowing the names of your ancestors (but that is what you are looking for, isn't it? <G>). From a general viewpoint, however, you have some great resources available to you, "even" in California. Where are you in California? If near San Francisco, there is the Sutro Library. This library has censuses, family histories, location histories by state, etc. I spend hours there every time I go. "Sutro Library 480 Winston Drive San Francisco, CA 94132 Phone: 415-731-4477 Email to: sutro@library.ca.gov The Sutro Library in San Francisco is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Beginning May 1, 2003, the Sutro Library will not be open on Saturdays. In 2003, the Sutro Library will be closed on: Jan 1, 20, Feb. 12, 17, Mar. 31, May 26, July 4, Sept. 1, Oct. 13, Nov. 11, 27, 28, and Dec. 25." Not to mention the National Archives in San Bruno and Laguna Nigel. (U.S.) National Archives and Records Administration Branch, San Bruno, 1000 Commodore Dr., San Bruno, CA 94066. Ph:(650) 876-9001, www.nara.gov/regional/sanfranc.html and http://www.archives.gov/facilities/ca/laguna_niguel.html Of course the LA public library has quite a lot also. Now, if you are in the desert, or waaay up north knocking on Oregon's door, there is probably an LDS Family History Center somewhere close. Another really good resource is: http://catalog.loc.gov/ You can do a search with surname and location and you will get gobs of possibilities. If you have some names, toss them out to us, and we can help better.
